Student reviews

Professors

Alumni

The academic side of Grinnell was excellent in my experience; my professors were knowledgeable and considerate. However, the school was much less diverse than I was led to believe when applying. On the administrative side, some of Grinnell's recent practices have been frustrating, including recently making dining plans mandatory for all students, regardless of residence.

Student

Our individualized academic advising, small class sizes, and the meaningful relationships that are made among peers makes the Grinnell experience live up to what is promised.

Campus and vibes

Alumni

Grinnell is the place where I found my people. As a student athlete, I felt like I found a community where individuals were both focused on their academics/careers, while also loving their sport.

Alumni

Since COVID, Grinnell's social/party scene has declined, but finding friends is relatively easy. One unique aspect of Grinnell is the Union of Grinnell Student Dining Workers (UGSDW), which now represents all student workers at the College. For prospective students interested in labor organizing, UGSDW provides a great opportunity for practical experience.

Senior

Grinnell College offers an academic and social community sourced in critical thought and social justice, allowing for a collegiate experience that emphasizes intentionality and social awareness throughout all areas of campus. Its small campus size is one leading piece that enables this intentionality to sustain.

Student

Food is good, but it gets old sometimes. Learn to go out or cook.

Student

Fairly typical college food, and seems like it would be easy to get bored. Admissions says there's a ton of great restaurants around town, but my student host seemed to disagree.

Student

The food is alright. Not the best I've ever had, but much better than a lot of places.

Student

Looks good! lots of options!

Student

I'm harsh on the food because I'm from the West Coast. People from the Midwest tend to love Grinnell Dining. There are some quality options, but I find it to be just OK for the most part. Definitely not crappy though!
