Student reviews

Professors

Student

Hampden-Sydney has been an amazing experience so far. All of the classes I have take have felt useful and the professors are great they really do care for you as a student. The school also pushes networking and new opportunities for students something that is hard to get at other schools.

Student

The rhetoric program makes you comfortable with arguing a point in writing as well as speaking. My favorite part about Hampden-Sydney is the student body. The student body is a close knit group, and this is the reason the alumni network is so strong.

Campus and vibes

Student

My favorite aspect of Hampden-Sydney college is the close, tight-knit community that shares the value of building brotherhood throughout the college and maintaining a higher standard for the students through the Honor Code.

Student

As a freshmen, I had no idea what I was getting into at Hampden-Sydney. During the first week, I was welcomed with opened arms with guys inviting me to hangout and to come to rush events at the awesome fraternities that HSC possesses. I immediately fell in love with this school and I have yet to find a school as good as ole HSC.

Cost and value

Student

The liberal arts education at Hampden-Sydney is top-notch; however, I still cannot recommend it to anyone. From the moment you matriculate to the moment you walk across the stage during Commencement, you exist in a weird bubble. Once you exit this bubble, finding gainful employment is often a monumental task, because Hampden-Sydney does an abysmal job of preparing you for a career.

About Hampden-Sydney College

Campus security at Hampden-Sydney is highly regarded, staffed by off-duty or retired police officers who provide a safe environment. The college has a strict Honor Code but is generally lenient with minor infractions if no trouble is caused. Drug testing is common among student-athletes, and overall the campus is considered safe despite occasional issues with non-student theft.

The Honors Program at Hampden-Sydney is designed for highly motivated students seeking enhanced academic challenges. It offers special courses, professional development opportunities, and a capstone project. Upper-class Honors students have the option of living in a wing in Venable Hall, a nineteenth-century landmark newly renovated in 2024.
