I had the honor to be taught by some of the best industry professionals and the most intelligent instructors one could ask for. They deeply care about students' successes and connections to the industry. I'll forever be grateful for my experience at SVA! SVA is underrated and should be seen and attended by more people! Highly recommend!

The School of Visual Arts is a true mixed bag. Half the time, I can’t tell if I’m wasting my time or being handed unimaginable opportunities. It all depends on you. Do your research. Every professor makes a difference, so make sure you like their work and art style before you commit to their class.

Campus and vibes

Sophomore

It’s great to be connected to the city. SVA is an urban campus and takes pride in that. The location of all the dorms are great. It’s really cool to be able to connect to so many different people.

Senior

The school has multiple buildings across manhattan. With really cool facilities and interesting corses. My only complaint is that instead of providing students with metro cards they have a bus which is only really useful to select few people.

About School of Visual Arts

Security in SVA buildings is strictly enforced, with security officers monitoring access and enforcing building policies. Residences maintain 24-hour security, requiring students to present their SVA photo identification cards. The college provides emergency contact information for local Manhattan precincts and encourages students to report any safety concerns to campus security.

The Honors Program at SVA is a challenging program for artists who seek academic enrichment along with their studio practice. The program enhances the dual abilities of the visually and academically gifted by integrating academic courses on the interplay between the liberal and the visual arts. First-year Honors students take an interlocking set of seminars on philosophy, literature, art history, and political and social history, focused on modernity and modernism.

SVA has a significant international student population, comprising a large percentage of the student body. The school represents over 50 countries and offers short-term study abroad programs in various creative fields. International students contribute to a globally diverse campus community, creating rich cross-cultural learning opportunities.
