Student reviews

Professors

Student

For my Computer Science pursuit, the professors generally care about student success, and many have industry or research backgrounds that make the material more practical. They are also approachable and willing to help outside of class, either in office hours or over email. They encourage collaboration but also hold you accountable for your own work.

Student

Take time to talk to a counselor and set up an academic plan! If you plan your classes ahead of time, enrollment dates won't be so painful. Have several back up schedules in place to protect yourself from being unable to find open classes.

Student

Future students, don't expect community college to be any easier than a university. The classroom sizes are smaller, but you still need to work for your grade.

Student

I would set up an appointment with a counselor as soon as possible. They will be able to help set up short term and long term goals for your community college experience. I you are interested in transferring to a 4- year college I recommend that you see a counselor even bore you sign up for classes.

Campus and vibes

Student

One thing that I would urge prospective students to do is to watch deadlines like a hawk and do everything as early as possible. With the state budget being late and education being a lower priority than it should be, competition for a seat in any class is tough. So if you have even the slightest notion that you are going to attend this campus, get done with your assessment test early and speak with a counselor as soon as possible.

Student

Give it a shot! It's a great place to find yourself if you're not sure where you want to be yet (like me!).

Student

Learn about all of the programs that are there are to help you further your education. BOG fee waiver, financial aid, CalWorks, EOPS, DSPS are are there to help you. Don't be afraid to ask for anything, the staff are wonderful and will work with you through everything. See a counselor regularly because they really keep you on track!

Student

At the bare minimum, do all of your work and show up every day. You absolutely must do this, because if you screw up your life due to not caring - it's on you.

Cost and value

Student

If you don't have a lot of financial options, or aren't quite ready to attend a four year univeristy, this is a great option. You can get your general education out of the way for a fraction of the cost at four year schools, and the college has transfer agreements with many colleges in the area. Very transfer oriented for a community college, and the teachers expect students to work hard and learn.

Student

This will prepare you for a four year college without hurting your wallet. If you want to be lazy, this isn't a college for you, but if you want to complete your GE for as little money and as quickly as possible, you will do well here.
