Student

Governors State University is a transfer friendly school. It is ideal for the those that live in the south suburbs of IL, because it is close to home and affordable compared to other universities. It emphasizes on flexible education, professors who are invested in you, and to learn with people from all walks of life. With a smaller class size there is more of a personal touch within the professors and easy to make study groups within the class. Most of the students are working commuter students so the college experience is not as lively but there are plenty of night classes to accommodate the working schedule. There are clubs you can be part of but there are not a lot of frats and sororities. The food is subpar, and the advisors need to be improved.

Student

At Governors State University (GSU) students are the number one priority. Since the classes are averaging about 20 or less for freshmen, professors have the time to spend one-on-one with their students. The university makes sure everyone is destined for success by supplying resources. This is mental health help, financial, housing, etc. They work with families to ensure all students feel comfortable. I'm a freshman and I love GSU. I like the location of GSU being a little closed off, but it makes it safer. I also like the activities and events that are always going on. There are always ways for someone to get involved.

Student

Governors State University is a fairly good university. I appreciate that they focus on inclusion and community. Overall, the staff is okay. Most of the professors I had didn't really teach; they mostly just assigned items and let the student learn on their own. However, I have had several amazing professors whom I will appreciate for the rest of my life! I also met amazing classmates and built strong friendships!

I loved going to GSU. I was looking for a diverse and affordable school. GSU is extremely diverse as far as ethnicity/race, age, religion, and more. There are many inclusive clubs and organizations on campus. We even sang the Black National Anthem at commencement. GSU is also a very flexible school with options for adult learners and full-time employees. It is also extremely affordable with a number of scholarships available. I graduated 100% debt-free. The school lacks in some areas, such as infrastructure, campus food, and preparation for graduate programs. However, as an overall, I love the community.

Student

I personally had a great experience at Governors State University. The students are friendly as well as the faculty that work there. The faculty is always willing to help and try their best to help students get what they need. I had the opportunity to play for Governors State University’s basketball team. The staff treated us like family and they treated all of the sports team well. I plan on going back to GSU for my doctorates degree. In fact, it’s my number one school of choice. I have already completed my bachelors degree there and now I’m excited to get the opportunity to go back.
